RJO-Authored Cyber Security White Paper Now Released

Cybersecurity is a key concern for all public contractors. Defense contractors are facing a deadline of December 31, 2017 to comply with the “Network Penetration” DFARS that imposes the safeguards of NIST SP 800-171 to protect “Covered Defense Information.” Civilian agencies are preparing requirements to apply SP 800-171 to all forms of “Controlled Unclassified Information.” State and local governments can be expected to follow suit.

RJO is a leader in advising contractors on the new cyber and supply chain contract requirements. Bob Metzger, who heads our D.C. office, was named a 2016 Federal 100 awardee by Federal Computer Week for his role helping “industry respond to government guidance and regulatory actions.” As a Special Government Employee of the Department of Defense, Bob serves on the Defense Science Board Cyber Supply Chain study.

Bob has authored a White Paper, on Federal Actions to Enable Contractors to Protect CDI and CUI, released last week by the IT Alliance for Public Sector (ITAPS), a prominent trade association of technology companies. The White Paper, reviews the new CUI Final Rule of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the proposed HSAR CUI rule from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), issues with DoD’s Network Penetration DFARS that concern CDI, and recent changes to the NIST SP 800-171 controls.

Also, a new e-learning site, GovernmentContract.com, now offers Bob’s free 8-part, 3-unit video course on “Understanding Cyber Security for Government Contractors.”
