Rogers Joseph O’Donnell Recognized by BASF for 2024 Pro Bono Work

Rogers Joseph O’Donnell P.C. has been recognized by the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) for the firm’s 2024 pro bono work on behalf of the Justice and Diversity Center (JDC) and its Federal Pro Bono Project. Many RJO attorneys help clients who cannot afford outside counsel in civil rights cases before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. They assist with case evaluation, opposing motions to dismiss, depositions and discovery proceedings, opposing summary judgment, settlement negotiations, private mediations and court settlement conferences.

The Federal Pro Bono Project is an ongoing JDC initiative providing information and advice (not legal representation) to self-represented litigants in cases in the U.S. Northern District through legal help centers in the San Francisco and Oakland federal courthouses. When ordered by the court, the project also facilitates the appointment of pro bono counsel, like RJO’s volunteers, for limited or full-scope representation.

Since 1977, the JDC has served the San Francisco community by providing free legal services to low-income San Franciscans and the nonprofit organizations that serve them. It is one of the largest and most distinguished legal associations in San Francisco.

RJO encourages attorneys and staff members to participate in pro bono services. Earlier this year, associate Henry D. Stegner received an Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service award from the JDC. Stegner was honored for volunteering his time as a mock trial coach for George Washington High School.
