Robert Metzger to Speak on Cybersecurity at the 2024 Global Conference on Frontier AI
Rogers Joseph O’Donnell P.C. shareholder Robert S. Metzger will examine cybersecurity and systemic risk as a panelist at the 2024 Global Conference on Frontier AI, which will gather legal, ethics and technology professionals to discuss the regulatory frameworks, risks and societal implications of artificial intelligence.
Metzger’s panel is at 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 17 and can be attended online and in-person. The session will focus on understanding and addressing the cybersecurity concerns and risks associated with advanced AI systems, including manipulation, corruption, subversion and destruction.
Metzger will speak alongside co-panelists Fabio Natalucci, former deputy director of the International Monetary Fund, Caroline Pham, commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Sarah Hammer, executive director of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and adjunct professor at the university’s law school.
The conference runs from Sept. 16-17 at the Brookings Institution’s Falk Auditorium in Washington, D.C., and is co-hosted by Brookings’ Center for Regulation and Markets and Universidad Europea Viadrina. The sessions will cover AI’s impact on democratic processes, its role in tackling climate challenges and the delicate balance between AI advancement and privacy protection.
Metzger is head of RJO’s Washington, D.C., office and is considered one of the country’s leading cyber lawyers for government contractors. He has represented leading corporations such as Microsoft and five of the top 20 aerospace and defense companies in their highest-profile contracts, disputes, compliance audits and bid protests.
Washington Technology has noted that Metzger is “considered by many to be the father of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification,” which governs how contractors and subcontractors must secure sensitive defense information. Metzger’s work, including his contributions to the Defense Science Board task force and MITRE’s “Deliver Uncompromised” report, has helped to shape government contracting cyber and supply chain security policies.
