Robert Metzger Featured in Federal Drive Podcast on New Homeland Security Cyber Incident Reporting Rules
Rogers Joseph O’Donnell shareholder Robert S. Metzger sat down with Federal News Network’s Tom Temin for an episode of the Federal Drive podcast to discuss the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s extensive new rules for cybersecurity incident reporting.
In the episode titled “New comprehensive Homeland Security cyber incident reporting rules,” Metzger explained that the regulations, proposed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act, would broadly require increased reporting of cyber incidents affecting critical infrastructure.
He also discussed potential concerns for the new legislation, such as the amount of detail needed to be reported, and how often companies could choose to report a security breach.
“This applies broadly to private sector enterprises in areas of regulated industries or who may not be directly regulated, but who are key participants in the performance of critical infrastructure,” Metzger said in the episode. “The aspiration is great. But, you know, whether this is an affordable and useful way to achieve that aspiration remains in doubt in my judgment.”
