Executive Summary

Reuben Stob is a member of the firm’s Construction, Attorney Liability and Conduct and Complex Commercial Litigation Practice Groups.

Professional Qualifications

Reuben represents clients facing complex and challenging disputes. His substantive litigation experience spans securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, intellectual property, contract, antitrust and consumer class-action cases. He also has experience in all aspects of the civil litigation process, including large-scale fact and expert discovery, dispositive and non-dispositive motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, trial and appeal.

Reuben spent the first eight years of his legal career at the Silicon Valley office of an AmLaw five firm, where he represented some of the world’s leading technology companies and associated individuals in a variety of high-stakes disputes. His experience includes representations of:

  • A Taiwanese optoelectronics company in a dispute with a former development partner, asserting various claims and seeking over $700 million in damages. Following a two-week trial in front of an AAA arbitration panel in San Francisco, the case settled on highly favorable terms.
  • A global semiconductor company and certain of its directors and officers in a securities class action in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, regarding production of, and supply for, the company’s micro-processing products. Following extensive fact and expert discovery, the action settled on highly favorable terms.
  • A global cloud-networking company in phase one of a multi-phase action in the Superior Court of California for the County of Santa Clara, involving an IP-based contract dispute between the company’s founders. Following a two-week bench trial including both fact and expert testimony, the court issued an order entirely vindicating the company’s interpretation of the contract.
  • A national broadband telecommunications company and its CFO, among others, in an action in the Delaware Court of Chancery alleging breaches of fiduciary duty in connection with a merger agreement. Following two days of direct and cross-trial examination, the CFO was immediately settled out of the case; subsequently, the entire case settled on highly favorable terms.
  • The CEO of an enterprise-class technology company in an $800 million SEC enforcement action in the US District Court for the Central District of California, alleging insider trading. Following a three-week trial, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict recognized by Daily Journal as among the “largest and most significant verdicts and appellate reversals handed down in California in 2014.”

Reuben received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law. He also holds an M.P.P. from the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, an M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University and a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Calvin University. Before attending law school, he spent six years teaching undergraduate business, economics and statistics courses (in addition to coaching the varsity men’s basketball team) at LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

When not in the office, Reuben enjoys fishing, hiking and exploring with his three sons and loyal dog in the South Central Sierra. An avid traveler, he has been to almost 60 countries and counting.
